K-POP an its influence

Something that has always heavily influenced me as an artist and been an interest of mine is K-pop. K-pop is a genre of music that originated in South Korea that takes heavy influence from western genres of music like Pop, Hip Hop, R&B, Dance and Rock and other Korean more traditional musical influences. One of the things that draws me personally to K-pop is the “Visual appeal” and almost aesthetic that comes along with this genre of music from exaggerated hairstyles and colours, to their normally colourful and bold styles of fashion and extreme dance training and choreography that comes along with a K-pop idols career. One thing that has always personally drawn me to K-pop is artists are never afraid of expression an example of this is men are often following trends of more feminine styles wearing colourful clothes and light makeup making them stand out in a crowd. The styles that are presented have often had influence on my own illustrative work as an artist and especially in my earlier works I loved to draw the members of a popular group BTS. K-pop also holds huge influence on the fashions of South Korea itself often encouraging dance fashion and makeup trends. An Artist connecting K-pop and illustration for me that I would like to reference is on instagram @blue_polygon who have really captured the essence of some K-pop idols within their illustrative works.
